The Gospel According to Scoot
Zion vs. Babylon – Two Ways Only
Posted by scootd28 on March 29, 2013

I have been quite occupied lately with thoughts of Zion.  I wrote recently of the impressions I received after my study of D&C 78.  My wife and I read together John Pontius’ account of “Spencer’s” visions of Zion in the book “Visions of Glory”.  Most importantly, though, I was prompted to re-read Hugh Nibley’s “Approaching Zion”, a collection of essays in which he boldly calls the church and its members to task for rejecting the United Order and the Law of Consecration.

One should understand that this is a 600+ page book written by one who is considered by many to be one of the greatest LDS scholars who ever lived.  While this book demonstrates that he is not only a world-class scholar, but also a spiritual giant, it is not something most sane people would subject themselves to once, let alone twice, yet I have been devouring it again with a sure knowledge that it contains a message that is quite pertinent to my salvation.

One night not too long ago, while lying in bed having read D&C 42 that morning and having read some from Professor Nibley that evening, I was casually praying as I often do while falling asleep.  I kept repeating to the Lord, “You commanded us, and we rejected it!  You commanded us, and we rejected it!”  I just can’t get over that thought!  I feel so saddened and helpless, and I don’t know what to do about it!  The early church rejected it, but I don’t have to, right?  Yet, how can I begin to truly live the law of consecration the way the Lord commanded?  There is no system set up for me to just give all my “surplus” to the church; the bishop would probably laugh at me, or tell me that he simply has no place to store it.  I continue to be haunted by that thought…You commanded us, and we rejected it!  I just do not want to be part of a people or a church who outright rejected the Lord’s commandment.

I feel compelled to make it clear that my purpose in writing this is not to criticize anyone.  I do not know how I would have reacted in those circumstances.  I am not criticizing the saints, the church, or its leaders, either then or now.  So when I say, “I do not want to be part…..”, I am simply expressing my honest thoughts and feelings, not declaring an open rebellion.  I am declaring, though, that I don’t want to perpetuate this less-than-optimal situation by exclaiming “All is well in Zion” and going merrily along my way. I am declaring my intent to search diligently for an understanding of what the Lord would have me do under the circumstances that exist today.

As one might expect, I began praying, and I actually received a measure of comfort.  I felt the Lord saying, “Don’t worry about it…..you don’t have a problem”.  I can accept this – my wife and I live in a very modest home, we drive old cars, we are fairly generous in helping our family, and there is nothing about us that would give any indication that we have our hearts set on riches.  We served a full-time mission while we were in our mid-50’s and far from retired or financially “secure”.  Yet, I remain decidedly uncomforted.  Instead, I want to shout to the world, “Don’t you see!  All of our problems – the economy, the temptation and burden of debt, the wars, the environment, the blatant attacks on liberty – it’s all because we are living by Satan’s system – a system that was initiated through Cain and which is perpetuated with increasing boldness by the secret combinations of our day.” It is a system into which are sown the seeds of “death, decay, dirt, diabolism and despair” (Frederick Warburg, “Publisher’s Report,”, All Authors Are Equal, as quoted in “Approaching Zion” by Hugh Nibley).

Our current economic system, even capitalism, carries in it the seeds of self-destruction!  Unless tempered by charity – true charity, the pure love of Christ – capitalism necessarily leads to exploitation of the poor by the rich.  The “distribution of wealth” unavoidably begins to assume the model we see today, with roughly 90% of the wealth in the United States being held by 10% of the people.  I recently came across this study showing that 40% of the wealth in the US is held by 1% of the population.  Pareto’s law, the famous 80/20 rule, dictates that, statistically, unless acted upon by outside forces, 80% of the wealth in any system will naturally gravitate into the hands of 20% of the people.  Yet, the scriptures repeatedly tell us that in Zion there shall be no poor – that there should not be any who are above another.  D&C 78:5-6 says:

“That you may be equal in the bonds of heavenly things, yea, and earthly things also, for the obtaining of heavenly things. For if ye are not equal in earthly things ye cannot be equal in obtaining heavenly things;

The contrast between the Lord’s way and Satan’s way is stunning, to say the least.

Money is popularly described as “the root of all evil”, but this is actually derived from Paul’s statement that “the love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Timothy 6:10).  I’m starting to realize the extent to which both statements are true – even that money itself is evil.  Satan himself revealed his hand when he said, “You can buy anything in this world with money”.  Why is money such a problem?  I think I have figured it out.  In the current movie, “Oz, the Great and Powerful”, there is a scene which depicts what has become cliché over the centuries – that of a poor man coming across a treasure of unimaginable magnitude.  In this case, Oz is introduced into a cavern full of gold which is promised him if he is indeed the great and powerful wizard of prophecy.  This humble, if not entirely honest man became, of course, immediately ecstatic over it – literally swimming in the piles of treasure; but why? (He is ultimately redeemed, for anyone who is concerned).  One cannot eat gold.  Gold doesn’t help one gain love or true respect.  Gold cannot clothe or shelter you.  Gold certainly does not in any way make one more comfortable.  In a world without money, only possessions that are useful have value, and they only have value if they are being used.  All the gold in the world doesn’t do one any good if one is cold and hungry and alone.  Likewise all the money in the world does no good except as it allows one to acquire those needed things.  A person can hoard possessions all they want, but it does them no good.  One only receives value from possessions that bring them comfort and enjoyment.  But if a person hoards money…especially if it is in limited supply (or a controlled supply – think Federal Reserve), that person can bribe others to do his or her bidding because he has the money and they don’t, and they need the money to acquire the goods that bring them comfort and enjoyment.  The person who has the money thus has power over others.  Money makes it easier to acquire power and gain.  Oh the cunning of that evil one!  It is so obvious to me now, yet we all buy into it.  One might say we are, in our world today, trapped by it.

So, if capitalism is not the answer, then what is?  Some foolishly suggest that socialism, or some form of socialism, is necessary to achieve Zion, but this is simply forced distribution of wealth – a blatant attack on agency.  You see, Satan has us coming and going.  Both systems are designed to give the few power over the agency of the many.  With capitalism, he has the few setting their hearts on riches and getting them, thereby turning away from God, and everyone else being covetous of the rich.  Socialism is simply a variation on the same theme.   The result, from a spiritual standpoint, is the same.  Either way, agency is compromised.  Note 3 Nephi 6:15:

14 And thus there became a great inequality in all the land, insomuch that the church began to be broken up; yea, insomuch that in the thirtieth year the church was broken up in all the land save it were among a few of the Lamanites who were converted unto the true faith; and they would not depart from it, for they were firm, and steadfast, and immovable, willing with all diligence to keep the commandments of the Lord.

15 Now the cause of this iniquity of the people was this-Satan had great power, unto the stirring up of the people to do all manner of iniquity, and to the puffing them up with pride, tempting them to seek for power, and authority, and riches, and the vain things of the world.

16 And thus Satan did lead away the hearts of the people to do all manner of iniquity; therefore they had enjoyed peace but a few years.

I am convinced now that the answer is explained in “Work We Must, but the Lunch is Free”, Professor Nibley’s talk given in 1982 before the Cannon-Hinkley Club.  In it, he reminds us that everything we have is a gift from God.  We own nothing – we are merely stewards.  In other words, there is a free lunch.  The Lord tells us in D&C 104:17-18:

…for the earth is full, and there is enough and to spare; yea, I prepared all things, and have given unto the children of men to be agents unto themselves.  Therefore, if any man shall take of the abundance which I have made, and impart not his portion, according to the law of my gospel, unto the poor and the needy, he shall, with the wicked, lift up his eyes in hell, being in torment.

I’ve heard it said many times that this scripture declares that we don’t need to be concerned about preserving the earth’s resources, because there will be plenty.  But this self-serving interpretation fails to take into account those who are taking more than is needful.  Professor Nibley comments:

Who can be “agents unto themselves” if they are in bondage to others and have to accept their terms?  The abundance of supplies is not placed here as the reward for which we are all striving – that is Satan’s decoy trick, that is what he promises those who serve him – the famous “pact with the devil” by which Mephisto supplies you with all the wealth and power you could dream of as long as you are here….  (Approaching Zion – pgs. 402-403)

You see, those who gather riches by taking more than their share – more than what they need – are keeping those riches from others.  The promise of there being “enough and to spare” is null and void.  The gifts, the “lunch”, that the Lord has given us, are simply not ours to hoard.  We have no right to keep more than we need – it’s not ours!

I am further convinced that every minute we spend accumulating wealth, whether it be for comfort or security or   protection or power (they’re really all synonymous – we acquire them because we don’t truly trust the Lord and His promises) is time we are stealing from our eternal selves; it is time He has given us as a stewardship; time that he expects us to be spending becoming what He wants us to be.  It is time we could and should be spending becoming Gods, and that does not include learning how to accumulate wealth and power at the expense of others.  It does not include figuring out how we can best insulate ourselves from the unpredictability of this world and from the attempts of others to wield power over us.

In the title of Professor Nibley’s afore-mentioned essay, he says, “Work we must….”.  What kind of work must we be doing then?  Yes, Adam was told that, “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread” (Genesis 3:19) but is that all?  It is clear to me that we can all have enough to eat and to spare without working even 8 hours a day.  The rest of the time I suspect we are just seeking to elevate ourselves above others or to hedge up possessions against an uncertain future.  Instead, we need to be working on loving each other, lifting up the hands of those who suffer, seeking the faith to work miracles……in short – becoming Gods! And it’s not acceptable to say, “I’m going to build up my wealth and then serve the Lord.  This whole issue is about trust.  Zion is about being one with the Lord.  How can I be one with the Lord if I don’t trust Him?  How can I be one with the Lord if I don’t obey Him?  And He commanded us…..but we rejected it.  It still makes me sad to think about that.

Professor Nibley emphasizes repeatedly how the Law of Moses – the true Law of Moses – as documented in the Book of Deuteronomy, requires of the Israelites that they be generous with the gifts they have been given. (Scriptural references taken from “Approaching Zion by Hugh Nibley, pgs 430-432)  Examples:

All debts cancelled every seven years (Deuteronomy 15:1-2)
All slaves and servants are freed every seven years – WITH a generous endowment with which to start their new life. (Deuteronomy 15:13-14)
A portion of the harvest is to be left for the poor, the birds, or other animals to eat. (Deuteronomy 24:19-20)
All of this must be done with a charitable heart, for if it is done grudgingly, “…heaven will be brass over thy head and the earth will be iron beneath thy feet” (Deuteronomy 23:25)
It is readily apparent that these laws are intended to

Prevent us from setting our hearts on our riches
Preserve human rights and dignity
Provide all with access to the bounteous blessings of the Lord
Encourage us to trust that the Lord will continue to bless us if we will but trust in Him and in His ways!
It is also readily apparent to me that if we are to “know God” (John 17:3), we must take these principles to heart, obey them, and in doing so come to understand their purpose and the wisdom behind them – even if it is in opposition to conventional wisdom (the ways of the world…Babylon).  We must strive to rise above Satan’s most insidious plan and keep our hearts perfectly focused on doing the Lord’s work, even as we are surrounded by a telestial existence.

Still, we live in the world.  What does the Lord ask of us today?  In the temple, we covenant to “accept” the law of consecration.  What exactly does that mean?  To me, it means to understand and internalize the spirit of the law.  It means to acknowledge in the deepest level of my being that all that I have, even all that I am, is a gift from God.  Yet, how do I manifest that understanding in my personal life?  It means we must strive to rise above Satan’s most insidious plan and remain perfectly focused on doing His work, even as we are surrounded by a telestial existence, a challenge which I have also discussed previously.  And what of Zion itself, which we already know will be built around this celestial law, and which I believe will be built only by those who have already become a Zion people in their hearts?  We must be preparing ourselves and others for Zion, which will come when we are prepared to receive and sustain it.

Here I need to share a portion of a blessing I received when I was recently set apart as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.  I was counseled in the blessing that “knowledge cannot be allowed to outpace becoming”.  In other words, I was told very clearly that all of my study, knowledge and understanding of the principles of the gospel, the history of the church, and the “hidden” things of the Kingdom, can easily do more harm than good if I am not becoming at the same pace that I gain knowledge.  In other words, the Lord was saying that my becoming is lagging behind even what limited knowledge I do have; and that I have a lot of work to do – a lot to learn; a lot to become.

So, how do I become one who has fulfilled my covenant and truly accepted the law of consecration?  How do I become one whose heart is such that the Lord would choose me to help build Zion?  Well, it sure feels like consecrating 8 hours of every Saturday afternoon and evening to work in the temple is a step in the right direction.  I mean, when will I party?!  (Oh, yeah…we don’t party.  Heavy sigh).  Seriously, I can only become the person that would be chosen to build Zion through humble submission to the Lord’s will.  I honestly don’t know yet how this transition will be manifested, but I know it must happen.  I know I must become even more humble, even less prideful, and even more trusting in the Lord’s plan for me.  I know I must become charity.  Now that I can see where I need to go, I must trust in the Lord to help me get there, and I must never cease striving, because, frankly, to be turned away at the gates of Zion because my heart was not sanctified to the Lord’s will, because I had not become Zion, would be an eternal disappointment, and one which I’m not sure I could abide

Conversation with God

Conversation between God And a Man.

Man: Heavenly Father, can I ask You a question?
HF: Sure

Man: Promise You won’t get mad …
HF: I promise

Man: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?
HF: What do you mean?

Man: Well, I woke up late
HF: Yes

Man: My car took forever to start
HF: Okay

Man: at lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait
HF: Huummm

Man: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call
HF: All right

Man: And on top of it all off, when I got home, I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn’t work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?
HF: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to send one of My Angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that

Man (humbled): OH
HF: I didn’t let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Man: (ashamed)
HF: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn’t want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn’t afford to miss work.

Man (embarrassed): Okay
HF: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn’t even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Man (softly): I see
HF: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn’t think you wanted to be in the dark.

Man: I’m Sorry
HF: Don’t be sorry, just learn to Trust Me…. in All things, the Good & the bad.

Man: I will trust You.
HF: And don’t doubt that My plan for your day is Always Better than your plan.

Man: I won’t Heavenly Father. And let me just tell you, Thank You for Everything today.
HF: You’re welcome child. It was just another day being your Heavenly Father and I Love looking after My Children…

I'm sorry to disturb you !. I am your Heavenly Father. You hardly have time for me. I love you and always bless you. I am always with you.  I need you to spend 30minutes of your time with Me today. Don't pray. Just praise.

Why Do we feel sleepy in Prayer,
But stay awake through a 3 hour movie?

Why are we so bored when we look at the HOLY BOOK, But find it easy to read other books?

Why is it so easy to ignore a message about God, Yet we forward the nasty ones?

Why are Prayers getting smaller,
But bars and clubs are expanding?
Why is it so easy to worship a celebrity,

But very difficult to engage with God?

God  said:
If you deny me in front of your
friends, I will deny you on the day of judgment:

When one door closes, God opens two

God has no BLACKBERRY but he's my favorite contact ... !!

He is not on FACEBOOK but he is my best friend .... !!
He is not on TWITTER but I still follow him

& even without the INTERNET I am always connected to him .....!!

He is not on WHATSAPP but he's always online

Would You Do It Again?

'He had been a man who had fought valiantly for his country, yea, a true friend to liberty.'
-Alma 62:37

'On one fateful day, our squad led out with my point man going on ahead. The point man sensed danger and called to me to come to him. Just as I got to him the enemy set off a claymore explosive mine. We were only a few feet from the mine when it detonated. The force of the explosion blew me about ten feet in the air. We both were severely injured from the explosion.

When the medical evacuation helicopter was near our location, my soldiers slid a rain poncho under me. Six men, three on each side, picked up the poncho and started on a dead run to the clearing where the helicopter had landed. As I was carried to the helicopter, I saw tears on the cheeks of one of my squad members. I raised up so he could hear me above the noise of the helicopter and yelled “Don’t cry for me, I’m going home. Cry for those who are not coming home.” Because helicopters are vulnerable on the ground, my point man and I were literally thrown through the open door onto the floor of the helicopter as it lifted off the ground.

As a result of my injuries, both of my legs were amputated just below the knees. When asked by people “would you do it again?” my answer has always been “yes.” I’ve always been grateful I could serve my country to help preserve the freedoms we all enjoy.

Many years have passed since that fateful day. My wife and I have been blessed with eight children. Jenny and I recently returned from serving a mission at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where we helped military families cope with the challenges of long periods of family separation. Because of our experience, we were able to empathize with those who served so valiantly.

On this #Memorial Day may we remember those of all generations who bought and paid for our freedom with their lives. Your freedom is a gift from them.’

Incredible Mission - Changing Lives of the Innocent

Rescuing Children from Sex Slavery: One Mormon's Inspired Mission

Click on the link for original article and to see the preview video
EDITOR’S NOTE: This article addresses the atrocity of child sex slavery—one of the fastest growing and most lucrative criminal industries in the world today. While we have made every effort to avoid graphic language, this article might be disturbing for some readers.
On a balmy February afternoon in the poverty-stricken country of Haiti, Timothy Ballard is thrown to the ground and handcuffed by local law enforcement. Lifting his head from the asphalt, he watches as the woman who just sold him two young children—a brother and sister ages 2 and 3—for $15,000 apiece is hauled away by police.
Little did the woman know that Ballard is a former CIA and Homeland Security agent who was working with the Haitian government in an undercover operation that would liberate 28 children from her “orphanage.” Little did she know that Ballard would go on to rescue more than 200 children from human traffickers in 2014 alone.
Ballard describes himself as a modern-day abolitionist and is doing everything in his power to educate the public about the little-acknowledged plague of human trafficking in society.
“We go about our lives thinking we have eradicated slavery, but it’s bigger than ever,” he says. “There are more slaves today than all the slaves in 300 years of the transatlantic slave trade.” In fact, human rights organizations agree there are at least 21 million victims of human trafficking in the world today, including 2 million children. Rescuing these children has become Ballard’s mission in life—a mission he believes is inspired of the Lord.

Into the Darkness

“I didn’t run into this line of work heroically with my sword unsheathed,” he clarifies. “I went in kicking and screaming.”
As a government agent, Ballard had been trained to fight terrorism, so he was surprised when his boss specifically requested that he help form a child crimes unit.
“I told him no,” he recalls. “It’s the one thing I wouldn’t do. It’s the worst possible thing anyone can see. Who knows how that would affect you?”
But his boss insisted that Ballard’s LDS faith would help strengthen him against the horrific crimes he would be facing.
“He felt my religious background would be a protection for me,”Ballard says.
After fasting and praying with his wife, Katherine, the couple felt strongly that the answer was “yes.” “The very reason I said no at first is the very reason we came to the decision to say yes—because we have children.”
So Ballard began his job as an undercover operative who assumed the role of pedophile or child trafficker. It wasn’t long after his first case, which led to the rescue of a 5-year-old boy, that he again doubted if he could withstand the emotional, psychological, and spiritual toll.
“This little boy was being violated in the worst possible way,” he recalls. “I was the first agent on the scene, and he jumped into my arms and wouldn’t let go. I came home that night and collapsed on the floor and cried like a baby.”
Ballard continues, “I told my wife, ‘I can’t do this.’ These children are being kidnapped and raped. There is nothing worse on earth. There is nothing worse in hell.” But he felt a powerful confirmation that this was what he was supposed to do. “I made a commitment to God and to that little boy that I would do everything I could, even if it killed me.”
So that’s exactly what he did for the next 12 years.

Divine Inspiration

As a government agent, Ballard could only work cases if a US citizen was involved. “There are limited resources,” he explains. “I don’t fault the government—it’s just the way it is.”
However, Ballard’s frustration grew unbearable as he infiltrated child trafficking rings only to be forced to leave innocent victims behind.
“I’ve had cases where I knew where the kids were, but I couldn’t get them out because there was no US connection,” he says. “I couldn’t take it anymore.”
He continues, “I had several very profound spiritual experiences that made it clear to me that I was to do something more in this field. I started getting powerful feelings that my family needed to leave California and move to Utah, but we had no idea why we were supposed to go.”
So Ballard and his wife went to the temple for guidance. The next morning, in what Ballard describes as a “spiritual download,” he received a clear and undeniable answer: “Find the lost children.”

“I knew exactly what that meant. I was to find those kids who were out of our jurisdictional reach by starting a private, nonprofit organization. I didn’t know how, but something in Utah would lead to this.”
The family moved to Utah in the summer of 2012, and soon everything fell into place for Ballard to found Operation Underground Railroad, which specializes in rescuing children trapped in slavery.
“Before I left the government, I called all my contacts in other countries. I asked if they would still let me come in and operate privately, and they all said yes.”
So the father of six assembled a team of former Navy Seals, ex-CIA agents, and other operatives with unique skill sets. Despite not knowing where the money would come from, networking and word of mouth quickly led to enough donations to begin operations in January of 2014.
“Even as the money was dropping, I felt like Jonah—I wanted to run and hide. But it got to the point that as hard as it was to walk down this unknown path, not taking it became scarier. I became petrified at the thought of sitting down with the Lord and explaining why I didn’t do what He had asked of me.”

Spiritual Strategy

Ballard’s team consists of people of all faiths, but many are LDS, including childhood friend and former Navy Seal Dutch Turley, who serves as vice president of Rescue Operations. Former US diplomat and intelligence officer Matt Osborne, who serves as vice president of Foreign Missions and Intelligence in the organization, is also LDS. In fact, Osborne joined the Church two years ago because of his friendship with Ballard in graduate school.

“Tim bore his testimony to me and planted the seed,” he says. “I investigated off and on for over a decade before I put Moroni’s promise to the test and got a response that was overwhelming.”

It was Ballard’s same conviction of heart that convinced Osborne to leave behind a stellar career in government to join Operation Underground Railroad. “There was something about what he said and the way he said it,” Osborne recalls. “At the end of the day, I can say I did this for the right reason—for the possibility of doing good. That’s what ultimately led me to jump.”

According to Osborne, having a team of people who sincerely desire to be humble and righteous has made all the difference.

“We pray constantly,” he says. “We pray for protection. We pray for guidance—to find the children, to find the honest government officials in other countries. It’s very difficult to know whom to trust.”

“We aren’t a vigilante group, and we never try to force things to happen,” says Turley. “We do everything we can, but things will happen on the Lord’s time—that’s when it is the most productive.”

“Some of the most spiritual moments of my life have happened while sitting across the table from a child trafficker,” Ballard says. “I feel the Spirit with me in those moments of complete darkness.”

Operation Triple Take

Ballard’s team found tremendous success on nearly a dozen operations last year, but the crowning achievement of Operation Underground Railroad in 2014 occurred on October 11, when, in cooperation with the Colombian government, they executed the largest-known human trafficking bust to date.
“We performed three operations within an hour of each other in three Colombian cities: Cartagena, Armenia, and Medellín,” says Osborne. “They resulted in the rescue of 123 victims and the arrest of a dozen criminals. The traffickers [in each city] were not connected, but we wanted to take them down at the same time so we could keep the element of surprise.”
Ballard, who served a mission in Chile and speaks fluent Spanish, participated in the Cartagena operation, just off the coast in the Rosario Islands. In a dramatic sting, he posed as an American businessman who wanted to rent a beach house and throw an elaborate party for his friends—complete with children for their “entertainment.”
Ballard had originally arranged for the traffickers to bring 20 children at $300 apiece. When he learned the traffickers wanted to build a child sex hotel on the island, though, he saw the opportunity to rescue 30 more. So Ballard asked a friend in the real estate business to pose as a potential investor.
“Mark* (name has been changed) is a successful real estate mogul. He can talk the talk, so we knew he would be perfect for this mission,” Ballard says. “I told the traffickers they would have to show us bigger numbers before Mark would be interested in investing, so the traffickers arranged to bring all the children they had to the party—even those still being ‘groomed,’ or prepared for life in the sex trade.” This included four virgins as young as 11 years old that came with a hefty price tag of $1,000 each.
The children were brought by boat to the island. With hidden cameras rolling, money exchanged hands, and a Colombian operative gave the signal for law enforcement to make their move. But there was a snag.
“Agents were supposed to storm the beach within five minutes of the signal, but it took 45 minutes for them to get there,” Mark recalls. “I thought, ‘What am I supposed to do now? It’s time for the party to start.’”
In an effort to stall the traffickers and keep them at the table, he started drawing up a business plan for their hotel. “Right at the top of the paper, I had written the cost of a child. It was sickening,” he says. “But it worked. By the end, they were arguing over who would get what percentage.”
Finally, 30 Colombian agents hit the beach and stormed the house.

One of the hardest parts for the undercover operatives is resisting the urge to comfort the children. Instead, they allow the children to believe they are pedophiles to maintain the integrity of the mission.
“When the takedown happens, we’re arrested along with the bad guys so we don’t blow our cover,” says Osborne.
In this instance, however, someone outside the team told the children that the operatives were the good guys, and as Ballard’s team left the island, they could hear the children cheering and singing and laughing. “It was very emotional,” says Osborne.
“There were Navy Seals in tears. It was a tender mercy that the Lord allowed Tim to have this connection with these kids on his last undercover mission.” (Ballard and Turley have since chosen to end their undercover work so they can bring more awareness to the public about modern-day slavery and raise donations for Operation Underground Railroad, but they are still deeply involved behind the scenes of each rescue mission.)
Three months after Operation Triple Take, Ballard returned to the streets of Colombia and began asking local traffickers if they could sell him a child for the night. “They told me, ‘Don’t you know? No one is going to sell you kids now. It’s too dangerous.’ We created a huge deterrent for the traffickers and scared off the sex tourism travelers,” he explains. “We rocked the whole country.”
Since October, Colombia has completed five operations of their own—and that is exactly what Operation Underground Railroad hopes every country will do. “Our goal is to work with these governments, teach them what they need to know, and show them that they can do this so they can have the confidence to do this without us,” says Turley. “We can’t save everyone, but as more countries join in the fight, we can make a huge difference.”

A Life of Freedom

The rescue missions don’t end at the arrests of the traffickers; a great deal of care is given to the children after they are freed.
“The most important part of the operation is the rehabilitation of the children,” says Osborne. “We partner with organizations who are skilled at that, and we screen reputable orphanages ahead of time, so when children are rescued they have somewhere safe to go.
Unfortunately in many cases, family members are the ones who have sold these children into slavery, so they can’t go home. We want to keep the safety net as tight as possible so the victims never return to that way of life.”
“Every child is precious,” he says. “We can’t solve this problem overnight, but by just saving one child, we can give them back the life that God intended for them.”
As for the tiny brother and sister Ballard “purchased” in Haiti last February, the children’s parents couldn’t be located or identified. Ballard, who bonded with the siblings during the sting, couldn’t bear to leave them behind, so he and his wife are in the process of adopting them.
“They are already part of our family,” he says.

A Beacon for Change

In addition to executing rescue missions around the world, Ballard’s team is developing software that will track child pornography and lead law enforcement to the pornographers.
“The problem of child sex slavery is 100 percent the societal consequence of our pornographic world,” Ballard explains. “Pornography is a drug. Adult pornography is marijuana, and child pornography is the cocaine. When people move on to child pornography, eventually they want the real thing. This software will change everything.”
To date, Operation Underground Railroad has conducted rescue missions in Haiti, Guatemala, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Thailand, and the United States, but according to Ballard, this is just the beginning.
“We have been getting requests from governments all over the world,” he says. “We have several cases pending, and we never know when we’ll have to jump on a plane. It could be tomorrow. But my wife doesn’t even complain—she knows this is what we are meant to do.”
“The only thing that stands between evil taking over this world is good people who face their fears and take action,” says Mark. “People who do nothing allow evil to flourish. I can’t sit back and allow atrocities to happen. I’m not going to allow my fear to stop me from doing what is right.”

When Gerald Molen, Church member and Academy Award–winning producer of Schindler’s List, learned of Timothy Ballard’s efforts to rescue children from sex traffickers, he knew he had to capture the story for the big screen.

“We want to create awareness of this problem. I’m excited to help in the little way that I can,” he says.

With hidden cameras rolling on every Operation Underground Railroad mission, Molen’s film crew captured powerful footage of the operations that not only makes for a compelling documentary but provides irrefutable evidence that leads to the conviction of child traffickers.

“The footage we shoot becomes an evidence package to help prosecute criminals,” says co-producer and director Darrin Fletcher.

“There’s no doubt when the judge sees that evidence. It seals the deal.”

“We’ve felt a hand on our shoulder guiding us the entire time,” says Chet Thomas, co-producer and director. “There’s a reason for this beyond a movie or a television series.”

THE CHALK MAN IS BACK

Some old ones, but some new ones, too.
THE CHALK MAN IS BACK
This guy continues to amaze everyone with his sidewalk 3D chalk drawings.

Yes, all these pictures he paints are on flat surfaces.
Unbelievable visualization and they are in chalk.
Can you believe?

Remember, these pictures are actually flat.

Totally worthy of forwarding!
This man is artistically talented beyond the visual boundaries of sight!!

A concert for one....very special - Mormon Tabernacle Choir

This is very  touching!

A Concert for One
This is about the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on tour in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2007, when at St. Jude's Hospital. There, a little girl had been admitted with an aggressive form of brain cancer and had her first chemo treatment, which made it so she shouldn't be in crowds and couldn't attend the Mormon Choir's concert the night before. Somehow her family sent a request asking that some of the choir members, maybe, could meet the young girl at a hotel lobby.

See what happened, when the little family, so distraught with their daughter's cancer, walked into the lobby!

Just So You Know...

This I Know
By Sherry Boyles
September 26, 2013

I know not from whence I came, nor how I came to be.
All I know, I have been taught by others known to me.
The Word, the symbols learned from birth, conveys the message clear,
I may not know the reason, but my Father sent me here.

I knew His face, of this I’m sure, for I can see it, still.
I’ve seen it in the sunshine that warms the winter chill;
In every dawn that slays the night and brings another day;
In every moment that I live, He lights for me the way.

I am a stranger to this place…this Earth that I call home.
‘tis ruled by forces deep and dark, but I am not alone.
Within me lies the Light of God, and so the strength I need
To be at one with Heaven, in thought, and word, and deed.

Am I perfect? No, not I! At least in human eyes.
But, as a daughter of my God, I fear not human lies.
For He has told me I am His, and I shall ever be,
The concept of perfection that my Father sees in me.

And, so, despite the questions running rampant in my mind,
Created by so many words I’ve gathered over time,
While I don’t know from whence I came, this truth I know – not learned –
My God, my Father, loves me, and awaits my safe return.

Why LDS Leaders Are Quiet About The End Times

Bro Draper is a religion teacher at  BYU

Why Leaders Are Quiet About The End  Times!!

This might be a good place to insert the answer to a question that has been raised many times.

Richard Draper is an authority on the Book of Revelations, and he answers this question.

Richard Draper

“Between now and the time we build Zion – we are vulnerable.
Why don’t church leaders speak out more and warn about the last days and what’s coming?
Why is there no show of strength by the Church?
Why is there so much evil?
Why is there no parting of the Red Sea, as it were, or the ten plagues?
Why is there no drying up of the heavens, or plagues under the administration of the prophet?
Why is it that  the church leaders do not march forth in strong defensive, rising up to condemn the nation like the prophets of old?
Where is the equivalent of the burden of Babylon, or the burden of Assyria, or the burden of Moab?

We are just not hearing about these things!

Why do the leaders sit quietly, doing the inner work of  the kingdom – rather than battling for righteousness by buying prime time slots on TV, holding huge rallies, or shouting hell fire against the sin centers of the world. Even the missionaries are encouraged not to contend, but to preach with love.

Could it be that we are now in the one thousand two hundred and sixty days when the beast walks the land? Are we now in the time, times and half-time when the three and ½ years commence? Are we in the midst of the forty two months? Could it be that evil really is supposed to have the upper hand, to do its work ... almost unhindered (at least for the time being)? Is it really possible?

The  Book of Revelation in the New Testament provides an answer. It shows us that the path of the church is not to actively fight against Babylon, or to put her down. She is to grow fat and sassy and to grow ever more arrogant and strong;  and to remain ignorant that the day of her destruction is not far distant.

Our job is to flee Babylon (repent), gather Israel through the preaching of the gospel; perfect the Saints, redeem the dead, and build Zion.

The church does not have the resources to fight against principles, institutions or people. Every ounce of energy  (financial and human) must be used for people, for morality, for goodness – not for actively opposing Babylon. In the Book of Revelation, the 144,000 nor the Saints, take part in any opposition against Babylon, the dragon, the  beast, or false prophets. The Saints are absent from all battlefields. The 144,000 are engaged only in the gathering of those of Israel who will come to the church of the firstborn. The only task that The Book of Revelation assigns  to the Saints, is to worship God and not the beast; to endure in faith, maintain virtue, to withstand persecution, and to preach the gospel of God.

Evil really has to have its day! Therefore, the church, for the present, is in a kind of isolation mode – concerned mostly with itself and internal affairs, strengthening its doctrinal and theological foundation – adding to its membership all who will come, and leaving the rest of the world to build that part of hell in which they will soon fall. Yes, evil really has to have its day. This world is in the kind of stage on which the cosmos will be able to see the self destructive nature of unrighteousness.  Wickedness is going to come down! It is wickedness that is going to bring wickedness down. (The prophet won’t need to do it – the wicked will bring it on themselves.) And the cosmos is going to be able to see that. And just at the point where everyone has learned this lesson . . . then God is going to step in and save the world.”

God laid out the plan for this world before it was created, and Jesus Christ is carrying out that plan in flawless detail. The Prophet and Apostles today are doing their part in carrying out that plan just as it was designed by God. We have been warned – and now we are being tested to see if we will be obedient to the prophet.

God’s plan is working. The question is – are we?

Scary Prophetic Quote

"Satan has control now. No matter where you look, he is in control, even in our own land. He is guiding the governments as far as the Lord will permit him. That is why there is so much strife, turmoil, confusion all over the earth. One master mind is governing the nations. It is not the President of the United States… it is not the king or government of England or any other land; it is Satan himself."

"So I say I am troubled; I am concerned over this nation; I am concerned over the nations, because of the wickedness of the people. I can see evil in the trend of the times. I can see anarchy ahead of us. If we are going to permit men, in organized form, to desecrate the sacredness of the laws of this country and the Constitution of the this country; if we are going to permit them, in the spirit of anarchy, to take possession of that which does not belong to them, without protest, we are going to reap the whirlwind, just as surely as we live."

President Joseph Fielding Smith
